Lunchtime doodlings

Schoolboy error! Anyone planning on doing the Burgess Hill rumble 65 mile bike race should avoid being in a bar, playing snooker and clutching a glass of red wine at midnight the evening before. Many thanks to my family for leaving me to suffer in peace for the rest of the day. Many thanks to Chris Riddell who unawares has lent me the composition for this doodle…

Lunchtime Doodle

I had the most ghastly dream last night that we’d booked a UK camping holiday!

Viva Lewes Covers

A group of exceptionally motivated and clear thinking chums from my town, have seen an opportunity to both help our financially ailing football club, while directly raising the community consciousness and involvement in our local football club. Some are football bonkers of course, but others simply recognise the importance that the club plays in the identity of the town..something that can be said of towns and cities all over the UK and pretty much everywhere.

It’s a hell of an undertaking, and one that really has to be applauded and granted the good fortune it deserves.

Lewes also has an daftly large number of exceptionally talented  artists of all fields. In numbers, they have banded together to host an exhibition, titled “Artists United”, to raise funds for the venture. The local magazine, Viva Lewes, has played a key role in the both the new clubs profile and also the exhibition.  So I was kindly asked to design a cover for this months edition and as a marketing image for the exhibition, and this is what I came up with.

I looked at past world cup posters and thought several were just terrific…Brasil 1950, this years SA poster and the Mexico 1970 posters just were fabulous. I loosely based this image on the Mexico number….

Wilhemina Babbeltitch

Wilnemina Babbeltitch is a really delightful story by Amanda Nathaniel, about a small witch and her friend Madame Glee. They live by the sea and get up to all sorts of fun!

It wasn’t tricky coming up with a cover in truth, as the characters are so beautifully painted by Amandas’ descriptions. This is one I’d simply love to see published!

Lunchtime Doodle

This cartoon came about in light of the decision to grant the Lewes store permission to expand it’s premises by 50%, seriously risking the death of it’s high street. The announcement of Tesco’s astronomical profits last week, smacks of shoving the towns nose in the shit.

Lewes Rooks Branding

The mighty Lewes Rooks FC are undergoing a facelift to coincide with their new Titan performances!

This is what I’ve come up with. I didn’t want some glossy, jock logo, but something that reflects the independent, maverick nature of the town.

See what you think….I’ll be expecting to see you all in the T shirts soon!
